Men are prone to showing the signs of aging just like women are. Historically, it has not been common for men to have cosmetic surgery. Even today, men comprise less than 20% of patients who undergo facial rejuvenation. This is changing, and more men are seeking rejuvenative procedures and cosmetic surgery to stay youthful and improve their appearance. The purpose of a facial rejuvenation procedure in Virginia is to remove the signs of aging in the face by pulling the skin and the structures underneath the skin in an upward and backward direction, counteracting the effects of gravity. The beneficial effects of a facelift, eyelid surgery, neck lift, and other types of facial rejuvenation can vary, depending on the patient's anatomy and lifestyle. In addition, the role of genetics is also important in the effect that the male cosmetic surgery procedures have in the patient's overall appearance.
There are many cosmetic surgery procedures for men that can help counteract the effects of aging. Modifications of facelift, eyelid surgery, neck lift, or brow lift are used for facial rejuvenation in men. In addition, cosmetic surgery procedures, such as nasal shaping or ear repositioning, can be performed on men to improve the shape or position of these structures. Virtually all facial rejuvenation procedures that are currently being done for women can, with slight modifications, be applied to men. A facelift, for example, can be done for a man and have much the same effects that it has for a woman. We would, of course, modify the facelift to keep the masculine features.
After male cosmetic surgery in Virginia, there will be a moderate amount of swelling and bruising. You cannot undergo facial surgery and plan to go back to work the following week. Most patients elect to take between 1-3 weeks off work, depending on what is being done. This gives them adequate time to recover from surgery and to be seen without drawing attention. Although most of the evidence of male cosmetic surgery will have disappeared by the end of this period, the ultimate result of your procedure will not be evident until several weeks have passed. The swelling in the tissues will slowly resolve and become normal over the ensuing weeks. After a short period, you may resume your normal level of activity.
Male facial cosmetic surgery is a group of procedures that helps counteract the effects of aging by lifting the skin of the face and repositioning the tissues to their more natural and youthful location. Eyelid surgery is among the most common facial rejuvenation that men choose. This is because the eyes can show signs of fatigue and aging even if the person is not tired or aged. Men who want to stay active and competitive in the job market find this procedure helps them to compete with younger professionals. Another cosmetic surgery procedure that is commonly done in men is rhinoplasty or nasal reshaping. Hair restoration, laser hair removal, neck lifts, and many other procedures are gaining popularity among men. To find out more about these procedures, please see the sections on each specific procedure.

Most sutures are removed within a week. However, there may be sutures or staples that remain up to 2 weeks in order to provide additional support in critical areas.
We like to see our patients frequently after surgery. You are seen by the doctor or nurse in our Virginia offices within 2-3 days of male cosmetic surgery. Then, the normal postoperative routine is 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after surgery. Of course, if there is a need, you are seen as many times as necessary. We encourage our patients to come in for routine follow-up visits every 3-5 years.
You should be able to put makeup on your bruises after a week. With eyelid operations, you can opt to cover the areas of bruising by wearing tinted eyeglasses. In people who have hair restoration, wearing a comfortable hat may be advised. For other areas of the face, we suggest that you use a small amount of foundation makeup. We do not recommend putting makeup on your incisions until the skin is completely healed because this may result in tattooing of the skin by the pigments of the makeup.
The ideal candidate for male cosmetic surgery is a person with good facial skeletal structure. There is no specific limitation in men for cosmetic surgery. There is no definite age category when the surgery should be done. Generally, candidates for cosmetic surgery should be self-motivated and have realistic expectations about the results. The younger you are, the better a candidate you are for male cosmetic surgery. A person’s physiological age is more important than his chronological age. That is to say, you may be 60 years old, but your skin and general health may be better than that of most 50 year olds.
You can pay for male cosmetic surgery by certified check, credit card, or cash. Payment for cosmetic surgery is expected prior to any procedure. If you are scheduled for surgery several weeks in advance, you may pay by personal check.
Yes. The extent of the scars depends on the type of procedure you are having. Please see the section for the specific procedure that interests you.
Yes. However, the pain involved in facial rejuvenation is very tolerable. We have heard our patients describe it as discomfort or soreness. Many patients do not finish the pain medications prescribed to them for pain relief. Having said that, remember that pain is very subjective, and it is not easy to predict what degree of pain you will have.
It depends on what you are having done. If you are having a regular facelift operation, for example, you will be asleep. It is to your advantage to be comfortable and have an anesthesiologist monitor your heart and lungs. This would also help the surgeon concentrate on his work and accomplish what he wishes to do with relative ease.
Most male cosmetic surgery operations are performed in an outpatient surgical facility in Virginia with the patient under general anesthesia. Only in rare situations in which the patient may have medical risk factors does Dr. Marefat suggest surgery in a hospital environment.
